Artificial intelligence has the potential to positively transform humanitarian aid delivery, improving quality, efficiency and empowering locally led development.  However, AI4Good comes with risks that could undermine trust, exclude vulnerable groups from lifesaving support, or unintentionally spread false information.

We need to clarify the expectations of humanitarian relief practitioners to build confidence that humanitarian activities are safely delivered and reduce uncertainty that may stymie innovation.

There are many, many responsible AI guidelines that we can follow. Which approaches are relevant to humanitarian contexts, what levels of compliance are practical and proportionate and what are the implications of AI regulation.

£100,000 for Responsible AI Risk Research

FCDO’s new Humanitarian Action and Responsible AI project will recommend an approach to responsible AI in humanitarian action. This will guide the practices of humanitarian actors. It should be developed, collaboratively, proportionately and mindful of humanitarian principles.

The guide should map safety approaches which may be relevant to humanitarian actors (for example standards, assurance tools, governance frameworks, evaluation tools, relevant regulatory requirements should also be explored) and the potential socio-technical risks generated from humanitarian actors using AI tools.

The guide should also give practical options for a responsible AI framework. This may involve packaging existing tools but could also involve suggestions to tweak practices developed in other sectors. This work would ideally be conducted in collaboration between humanitarian and technology stakeholders.

FCDO will appoint a not-for-profit organisation, research body, or a partnership of both through an accountable grant competition with a value up to £100,000.

Locally lead healing capabilities in healthcare research.
I’m excited for your program. I’m a blood purifying therapy and psychological assessment healthcare provider. Patients centered care is the desire of my heart because both the patients and their care takers are happy with the service. We cleanse patients’ blood and then the blood fight off diseases in the body. No external intervention like medicine. I hope you will guild me to meet any of the funding opportunity in the humanterian setting.
