βThe Principles for Digital Development represent a commitment not only to innovation, but sustainable results,β said USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah in 2014 when USAID helped publish the Principles as a set of guidelines on best practices for development programs that utilize technology to increase impact.
Original endorsers of the Principles included the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the United Nations Development Program and the World Food Program.
Since then, over 500 people representing more than 100 organizations have participated in detailed discussions and hands-on workshops to move the Principles from a general framework of how to do development better, to concrete guidelines, toolkits, and best practices we can use in every development program. In the process, over 30 organizations have endorsed the Principles, with more joining daily.
USAID has also created a new report, From Principle to Practice: Implementing the Principles for Digital Development, that captures perspectives and recommendations compiled from the practitioner community. This resource showcases lessons learned and new opportunities for organizations seeking to understand how the Principles will improve development processes.
Please Participate
Please RSVP now to join your peers in celebrating the Principles of Digital Development and the new report From Principle to Practice, and learning how you can apply the Principles in your work on February 29th at FHI 360 Academy Hall in Washington, DC.
We will have an exciting mix of educational keynotes, lightning talks, and group breakouts, including interactive learning lunch tables and an evening reception to foster needed networking across sectors. Confirmed keynotes include:
- Ann Mei Chang, Executive Director of the U.S. Global Development Lab at USAID
- Christopher Fabian, co-Founder UNICEF Innovation Unit
- Kate Wilson, Incoming CEO, Digital Impact Alliance
Please Present
From the beginning, efforts around the Principles have been organically driven by the development community. Continuing that theme, when you RSVP participate, please let us know if you’d like to share a Principles success story in a quick 5-minute lightning talk, or go deep and explore a Principle implementation tool or tension during a breakout session or learning lunch table.
Our aim is to create a day of intense exploration of the already possible and soon-to-be potential in moving from Principle to practice. This is a great opportunity to share your ideas with key decision makers and move us from talk to action.
