Have you ever wanted to know the ISP rates in other countries to compare them to your own? Or what the mobile phone tariffs are in a country you are about to visit? Well now you can. Erik Hersman of White African has just launched the wiki:
African Signals – dedicated to finding out and showing local rates for mobile phone and internet connections around Africa.
I’m excited by the potential of African Signals, both as a way for consumers of IP services to find out costs in other locations (or even their own), and to lobby both the commerical providers and governmental regulators to reduce costs and barriers, and increase service levels across Africa.
Yet, there is a key to making African Signals sucessfull, and that’s your input. The site will only be useful to you if its accurate and comprehensive, and it will only get and stay that way if you add in ISP and mobile phone costs in your area. So get typing!
